Structured Cabling Technician

Vortex IT Systems is hiring a Structured Cabling Technician to support our expanding infrastructure team. This role is responsible for installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting structured cabling systems for commercial and enterprise clients.

We’re looking for a self-motivated individual who can work independently, manage their time efficiently, and take ownership of assigned projects. This position requires minimal supervision and a strong commitment to quality workmanship and safety standards.

Key Skills & Competencies

Technical Knowledge:

Strong understanding of structured cabling systems including Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6A, and low-voltage infrastructure. Knowledge of industry standards and best practices.

Communication Skills:

Ability to communicate effectively with team members, project managers, and clients on-site.

Problem-Solving Skills:

Quickly identify cable faults, connectivity issues, and installation challenges with efficient solutions.

Organizational Skills:

Ability to manage multiple installation tasks, prioritize work orders, and maintain accurate documentation.

Interpersonal Skills:

Team-oriented mindset with the ability to build strong working relationships.

Duties and Responsibilities

Install, terminate, test, and label copper cabling systems (Cat5e/Cat6/Cat6A).
Install patch panels, racks, cable trays, ladder racks, and pathways.
Perform cable pulling, routing, and dressing according to standards.
Test and certify cables using appropriate testing equipment.
Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
Maintain accurate documentation and submit reports in a timely manner.
Use power tools and hand tools safely and effectively.
Travel to job sites as required.
Work in physically demanding environments including ceilings, crawl spaces, and lifts.
