Structured Cabling Technician

Vortex IT Systems is hiring a Structured Cabling Technician to support our expanding infrastructure team. This role is responsible for installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting structured cabling systems for commercial and enterprise clients.

We’re looking for a self-motivated individual who can work independently, manage their time efficiently, and take ownership of assigned projects. This position requires minimal supervision and a strong commitment to quality workmanship and safety standards.

Key Skills & Competencies

Technical Knowledge:

Strong understanding of structured cabling systems including Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6A, and low-voltage infrastructure. Knowledge of industry standards and best practices.

Communication Skills:

Ability to communicate effectively with team members, project managers, and clients on-site.

Problem-Solving Skills:

Quickly identify cable faults, connectivity issues, and installation challenges with efficient solutions.

Organizational Skills:

Ability to manage multiple installation tasks, prioritize work orders, and maintain accurate documentation.

Interpersonal Skills:

Team-oriented mindset with the ability to build strong working relationships.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Install, terminate, test, and label copper cabling systems (Cat5e/Cat6/Cat6A).

  • Install patch panels, racks, cable trays, ladder racks, and pathways.

  • Perform cable pulling, routing, and dressing according to standards.

  • Test and certify cables using appropriate testing equipment.

  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.

  • Maintain accurate documentation and submit reports in a timely manner.

  • Use power tools and hand tools safely and effectively.

  • Travel to job sites as required.

  • Work in physically demanding environments including ceilings, crawl spaces, and lifts.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in IT, Electronics, or equivalent experience.

  • 2+ years of structured cabling installation experience.

  • Experience with cable testing and certification tools.

  • Ability to read blueprints and technical diagrams.

  • Valid driver’s license.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

  • Must pass background check and drug screening.
